TEMPLATE GUIDE
Start here.
Thank you for choosing The Aubrey — an after-dark editorial template for private members' clubs, salons and by-invitation brands. This is your setup guide, top to bottom. It is not linked anywhere on your site and is hidden from search — work through the steps, then delete this page before you publish.
Colours — set the mood
Every colour is a reusable style. Open Assets, then Colours, and edit Paper, Ink, Oxblood, Brass, Bottle Green, Surface, Muted or Line — the whole site re-skins instantly. It ships in 'after-dark': near-black Paper, cream Ink, oxblood and brass. To flip it back to daylight, lighten Paper and Surface and darken Ink. Change the mood by editing one token, not a hundred layers.
Typography
Three families, all managed as Text Styles: Cormorant Garamond for display and italics, Source Serif 4 for editorial body, and Inter for labels and the nav. Edit a Text Style once and every instance updates. Keep display weights modest — heavy serifs read as shouting. (One style, Article Body, is used on the Journal pages.)
The page, top to bottom
Every section edits on the canvas — click a line to rewrite it, an image to swap it. In order: the hero (headline, fireside image, Request button), The House (your manifesto), On exclusivity (the oxblood statement), The Spaces (a four-image room gallery), Membership (three tiers — re-price and re-list), The Table (your chef's-table pitch), The Diary and The Journal (both CMS — see step 04), the Request an Invitation form, and the footer. Drag sections in Layers to reorder, or delete any you don't need.
Content & the CMS
Two collections drive the dynamic content: Events (The Diary) and Journal (the writing). Add or edit entries in the CMS panel — the homepage lists, sorting and the Journal article pages all update automatically. Each Journal entry gets its own page with previous / next built in. The Diary rows link through to the invitation form so guests can enquire.
The invitation form
The Request an Invitation form is built and validated (full name + email required). To receive applications, select the Submit button, open the form connection in the right panel, and choose Email (enter your address) or connect a Webhook, Zapier or your CRM. Set a success message under After submit, then publish. Note — forms only send from the published site, not the canvas.
Motion — the after-dark effects
Five layers of motion ship with the site, all in the Layers panel and all reduced-motion and touch-safe. Doors — the curtain that parts on first load. Candlelight — the warm glow trailing the cursor (desktop only). Grain — the fine film texture over everything. Lights-down — the vignette that dims the oxblood statement as it passes. Plus the hero parallax and the serif reveals. To remove an effect, delete its layer and the site stays composed and still. To retune one, open its code component and edit the values near the top.
Images
Click any image to replace it. The template ships with warm, low-key photography — candlelight, dark wood, brass, quiet rooms. Stay in that register; bright, busy or obviously-stock shots break the spell. Replace every placeholder image with licensed or original photography before launch.
Responsive & devices
Built across three breakpoints — desktop, tablet and phone. Toggle them above the canvas to check each. The nav reduces to the wordmark on tablet and phone, the galleries and tiers stack to one column, and the candlelight cursor switches off on touch. If you resize type or spacing, glance at the phone breakpoint before publishing so nothing crowds.
Favicon, SEO & social
In Site Settings, set your favicon and social-share (Open Graph) image, and give each page an SEO title and description. These are what people see in browser tabs, search results and link previews — worth a few minutes before you go live.
Going live
Open Site Settings, then Domains, to connect your domain — then Publish from the top-right. Re-publish after any change. One housekeeping note: delete this guide page before you launch, or leave it — it is not linked anywhere and is hidden from search.
Typefaces: Cormorant Garamond, Source Serif 4, Inter (Google Fonts). Placeholder photography: Unsplash — replace with licensed or original imagery before launch. Built for after-dark, by-invitation brands.
